Psychologists love to develop profound sounding terminology for observed phenomena. In keeping with that tradition I present today one of the strangest sequences I have ever witnessed (and been fortunate enough to photograph). These were taken at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Nassau, Bahamas, four years ago (yes, your fearless shevegeek has a deeper side). Here are two people “doing their own thing” (Tai Chi, and shooting hoops), each perhaps only peripherally aware of each other’s presence – yet look at how their movements mirror each other, even though they are doing completely different activities. I was casually watching them without any intent to take a picture when I began to see this pattern emerging. I think I blasted through two rolls of film in my Leica MP (a camera ideally suited to this type of spontaneous shooting where peripheral vision is so crucial to finding just the right moment to trigger the shutter).
