The Wee Scot

scot.jpg

The Simpson Wee Scot is often described on vendors’ web sites as a “novelty” or “collector’s” brush, implying that this really isn’t a brush for serious use. Shavers commenting on the various discussion boards acknowledge that although the Wee Scot works extremely well, it isn’t a brush for regular daily use since it doesn’t provide the full sensual experience that comes from a larger “full-bodied” brush. I disagree. The Wee Scot is like driving a small English sports car – a Morgan perhaps, or an old Jensen – it handles very tightly and gives you a more intimate sense of what you’re doing because you’re so close to the action. The Wee Scot allows you to apply shave cream more precisely…especially useful around the nose where larger brushes tend to occasionally shove a good dollop up the nostrils with unpleasant effect. And the darn thing really lathers – that’s the crazy part!

My Wee Scot is pictured above next to two of its mid-sized brethren for perspective on just how small this thing really is. At the back and on the left is the Chubby #2, while on the right is my vintage 1950’s – ’60’s Simpson #10 (new old stock, recently acquired).
