Leisureguy turned me on to the D.R. Harris shave soaps and I must admit, the one that I have – the Lavender soap stick – is exceptional in terms of its lather and texture. The smell is a little synthetic, but that’s a matter of personal taste…clearly I need to try a few other scents. Since I planned to use the Israeli Crystal (also known as the Israeli Personna) in the E.J Chatsworth, I decided to go solo with the soap and avoid adding the additional element of a superlather.
The D.R. Harris lathered up richly and was great for the first two passes. Unfortunately, it thinned out by the third pass, a phenomenon I encounter routinely now with all soaps, which I suspect is due to the amount of water runoff from my head after each rinse in the shower. I toughed it out though the third pass even thought the razor started skipping…risking a nick or cut that fortunately failed to materialize. For the touch-up pass I used the Total Shaving Solution (TSS) oil which gave a wonderful tingling finish and a real EHM shave. Oh…and the blade…I almost forgot! The Crystal was excellent…cutting smoothly and almost imperceptibly through the stubble.
Finish was with the Canderm Cliniderm moisturizing cream and a shot of Tabac cologne (not on the face of course!).
