No shave today, despite the best intentions. But a brief “autopsy” of last shave might be useful. As I mentioned yesterday, the Astra Keramic gave a very good, but not excellent, shave. I could feel this as early as upon waking this morning…the stubble felt coarser than usual. I suspect the situation wasn’t helped by what I am finding with Marius Fabre’s Le Cube, and that is a tendency to produce a thick but rather airy lather (or “slag” in Method terms) that doesn’t quite muster enough moisture despite its apparent thickness. Even with an excellent traditional cream as the “cutting paste” I don’t find that it is quite up to Method standards. Frankly, I was doing better with the Mitchell’s Wool Fat soap. Anyway, I’m getting very eager for my Hydrolast products to arrive from Mr. Roberts, and for a chance to try the authentic and veritable Cube.

I have been exploring wet shaving for a year now, buying all sorts of shave creams, oils, balms, razors in a myriad of combinations. When I ran across an article on Method Shaving and then considered purchasing the Robert’s shaving items, I was, indeed skeptical. I wa getting great shaves with Mescal Glyce soap (pre-shave soap) Mescal Real cream and a ‘47 Super Sport, already.
After reading a very positive article on Method Shaving by the Leisure Guy, I decided to take the plunge with the Hydrolast products (the cube and the mix) even though I didn’t have the recommended type of brush.
I have had two top-flight shaves with these products. The first was great, the second was GREATER and I can only anticipate how awesome shaving will be in the future as I learn the subleties and become more proficient in the Method Shaving regimen.
I will spring for a brush soon and intend to call Roberts to chat about my mixng technique. This guy has devoted himself to the art of shaving and the products are really quite amazing. My face is smooth and supple and after only two Method shaves it appears that all the razor burn and razor bumps are receeding quickly.
The Roberts Shave Balm is excellent, also, leaving my face hydrated soothed and comforted.
