My cousin in Holland just got married and my wife has begun the wedding present, a hand-woven blanket app. 50 X 75 inches. I thought it might be fun to track the development of this work…that way my cousin can periodically visit the blog and get an update on the progress of her gift. My wife is a very talented weaver and spinner (of thread, not bicycles!). She is very keen on what in business is known as “vertical integration”, i.e. controlling every aspect of her art as far down the food-chain as possible. Thank God municipal regulations forbid barn animals in the burbs, because we would have several goats and an alpaca by now.
First step: Selecting the colors and preparing the warp chain on a warping mill in preparation for putting it up on the loom.

Here is a picture of a blanket she finished last year, and that I already wrote about, here:

No cats…we’re dog people. Not that the notion of spinning the Briard’s beautiful hair hasn’t come up, but we all looked at each other and went…..”Yuuuuck”.

P.S.
And only one dog at a time….as Jack Nicholson said in As Good As It Gets…..”Sell crazy someplace else, we’re all stocked up here”.
