I had lent my Slant-bar to Mr. Italo several months ago and recently he returned it, all shiny and cleaned up, ready to go. Today I used the Slant-bar with a fresh Treet Blue Special Blade and…ouch…a searingly close shave and lots of irritation as told by the alum block. This despite using a teriffic superlather with the Karite shave soap and cream. I could feel the blade dangerously close to the skin, but try as I might I couldn’t get a light enough touch. The moral of this story: Always go slow and careful with a razor you haven’t used in a long time. Finished with the extremely soothing Hydrolast Toner and Conditioner. Ahhhh!

Steve, I bought and sold or traded the Merkur Slant on 3 seperate occassions trying hard to like it. Never warmed to it, but I tried. LOL Really enjoy your blog entries. Enjoyable reading. Awaiting my “Napoleon” Plisson with Antique brass handle to arrive from Belgium and I will let you know of my experiences with it!

Actually Mike I used to really like it, so I don’t know what happened. I think i just got used to the superb ergonomics of the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth and my hand just can’t hold the Slant-bar properly anymore. Also, I’ve injured the tendons in my right thumb where it joins the rest of the hand and it makes holding small objects very painful. I suspect I just can’t get a proper grip on the Merkur.
Good luck with the Plisson.
