After a three day shaving hiatus, I returned to Classicshaving’s new “Godzilla” razor that uses Feather disposable straight-edge blades in an injector-style design. The first two shaves were torment. I needed a week to recover. The Feather Professional blade that comes standard with this razor just doesn’t work for me…too sharp and too aggressive in a razor with so much blade exposure (YMMV). Anticipating another painful experience I decided to try to tone things down a bit by replacing the Professional with the Pro-Guard blade and its wire-mesh condom that covers the blade and puts some distance between it and your skin.

Night and day! A wonderful and painless shave that resulted in a butter-smooth face with just two passes. The third pass really seemed redundant although I did it anyway just for tradition’s sake. It added little to the overall result which was magnificent. One still has to be very careful with this razor as it is clearly not a safety razor but a straight-razor in drag. Finally, I’m looking forward to the next shave with this razor and blade combination.
