Superlather revisited

nikolauskorb

I hadn’t done a superlather in some time. Maybe I’ve gotten lazy, or maybe my technique got good enough that I could get a pretty good shave without one. But a recent comment by another shaver on one of the shaving discussion boards reminded me of this wonderful technique. For those not familiar with a superlather, it involves working up a lather with a shaving soap, adding some shaving cream to the brush, and then working up the lather once again with the cream and soap together. I used a superlather on my last two shaves, a combination of Mithell’s Wool Fat soap and Musgo Real cream (both lanolin-based products) and was immediately reminded of just how terrific a lather this produces. A Santa Claus beard of lather! A neverending cloud of wet, slick lather! And a great shave to boot, with a fresh Racer blade from Egypt in the E.J. Chatsworth. If you’ve never tried a superlather, or haven’t used one in some time….maybe its time to revisit this great shaving method.
