Shaving reflections

It’s been about two weeks since my last shaving post….ironic, since this blog started out to document my evolution in the world of “gourmet” shaving. The posting “cloud” to the right will attest to the sheer volume of postings about shaving (the larger the font the more posts there are), and this despite the fact that I only write shaving-related pieces maybe once a week or so now.

My on-line shaving mentor, Leisureguy, to his credit, continues to post daily about his shaving exploits….and I continue to look forward to every single posting. But in my own case, gourmet shaving has evolved from daily sensual adventure into an almost effortless and “mind-less” ritual….still very pleasurable, but not something upon which I dwell too long. Even my choice of products has evolved through a form of natural selection (survival of the fittest) from a broad armamentarium to just a few things that I really love:

  • Prep with Musgo Real Glyce Lime Oil pre-shave soap (MR GLO)
  • E.J. Chatsworth razor with whatever blade is handy…usually for 3-4 shaves;
  • J.M. Fraser shave cream (in any of its three incarnations);
  • Dan Capshaw shaving brush (I own two models);
  • Alum block (indispensable in my opinion);
  • Moisturize with either The GR after-shave balm and moisturizer, or Hydrolast A.S. Tonic and Conditioner;
  • Finish with any one of Booster’s after shaves (absolutely wonderful scents).

I recently sold my Simpson Chubby #2 Best Badger, and have given away many of my other brushes, shave creams, and even collectible razors such as my 1962 Fat Boy. I enjoy the idea of other people having some pleasure with these items.

  1. I’d like to officially thank you for being at the receiving of your many blades, creams, balms and aftershaves.

  2. And I’m pleased to have purchased your Chubby # 2. That you enjoy the idea of others derive pleasure from your former implements says much that is admirable about you.
