Sometimes retro really is just junk

frontview3

It seems that while 3/4 of the world wants to move forward, the other 1/4 looks longingly at not only its own past, but the past of others with which it really has no experience. Don’t get me wrong…I’m all for nostalgia. A big believer in fact. I think nostalgia gives us a sense of continuity with our past and therefore a sense of continuity with the future. In this way it helps us find both meaning in our lives and a sense of peace with our impending death.

But sometimes junk is really just junk! It was junk then…and it’s junk now. My earlier post about the Chinese squat toilet reminded me of an ad I’ve seen repeatedly in my wife’s Yoga magazines for a platform that converts your Western sit toilet into a squat-job. There are literally dozens of web sites extolling the virtues of squat toilets for improved health. That is….unless you happen to fall off the damned thing and break your neck!

Hell, 99% of Indians and Chinese dream of owning a sit-toilet. Wassamatter with you people???
