After yesterday’s miserable experience with the locally purchased dirty hippie shower soap, I was predictably nervous when my order of Kell’s shaving soap arrived today. Frankly, anything with hemp oil now automatically elicits a nervous anticipatory tick in my left eyelid!
Nevertheless, I wanted to give Kell’s a fair shake; I even put a fresh Wilkinson Sword (India) blade into my trusty E.J. Chatsworth razor. The tin is a nice touch, reminiscent of my beloved benchmark soap, the Gold-Dachs Spezial. Kell’s is a glycerin soap, very lightly scented, and even when wet, the scent lacks the sensual punch of the G-D and other favorite soaps. But the Kell’s performed very well in the lubrication and protection department, producing a very fine shave without the dryness and skipping sometimes encountered with lesser soaps. And for $6, the quantity in the tin is very generous, promising months of excellent shaving.
If you’re a “soap guy” Kell’s is well worth a try…it might even become your preferred medium! I’m looking forward to trying the other two tins, one unscented, and the other the Lavender.
P.S. The USPS delivered in 6 days…about par for US orders, and making UPS completely meaningless on a cost/speed basis. And no brokerage fees plus no taxes since it came in as a small parcel which doesn’t always get nailed by the Customs boys…a nice bonus.
