This picture is from the latest Bay brochure for men’s clothing (just in time for Father’s day). It’s nice to see the Leica M7 product placement, but I have a note to product placers, marketers, and ad agency creative types: If you’re going to show a piece of equipment in an ad, please have the decency to show it in proper use.
This model is holding the Leica M7 like a granny holding an old Kodak Brownie, or some kid with a tiny digital point-and-shoot. This is a two pound, solid-metal piece of professional equipment. Held the way the model is holding it will inevitably result in camera shake; no self-respecting photographer and Leica owner would ever in his wildest imaginings hold the camera this way. And what’s with the flash in the daylight?
But the one who should be most ashamed is the photographer who took the shot; he should have known better and advised his client.
