Leisureguy has a good post today on the importance of proper preparation before applying blade to beard. It’s timely reading as it very much reflects my own experience with the American (not Israeli) Personna blade. Yesterday I had a very “modest” shave with this blade, but today it was excellent! What was different? The amount of time and effort spent in setting up the beard!. Yesterday I was in a rush and sidestepped the usual beard conditioning from MR GLO and a good, wet, superlather. Today, I took my time, washed with MR GLO, made a wonderful superlather with the Valobra shave stick and the Proraso Red cream (worked up with the voluminous and uber-soft Muehle-Pinsel silvertip brush with the bog-oak handle). Night and day! The Personna is still a little mild for my taste and left a fine stubble in some unusual places, but…overall an excellent shave.
Moral of the story? Gourmet anything can’t be rushed!
