Tabac has a special place in my “scent memory”…it was my first “adult” aftershave, gifted to me by a friend of my mother’s whose son was a “big man on campus” in my high-school. Its a great scent…woodsy, citrus, and clean-smelling. Tabac shave soap in its distinctive ceramic bowl was also my first shave soap when I got into “traditional” wet shaving in the late ’70’s.
Three shaves with the Israeli Crystal were enough. A good blade, but not one likely to go into my permanent repertoire…so, back to the Treet Blue Special for relief. I made an excellent superlather with the Tabac soap and cream using my new method of shaving first with the soap, and then adding the cream to the brush for the second and third passes. A perfect protocol for the shower shaver…the third pass was rich and undiluted by the shower runoff from my head. The brush was the Plisson European White badger with the terrifically heavy brass handle. Despite the two-day growth, the Treet was marvelous. Damn this is a great blade….with the exception of the Sputnik, the Treet stands head and shoulders over everything else. How strange that a 10-cent blade should blow away the more expensive brands (YMMV).
A terrific shave…a solid 9.0…finished off with the alum block, Trumper’s Coral Skin Food and a shot of Jade East (Yikes, I should have used the Tabac!!!).
