My latest order of new blades from Barbiera Italiana included the Zorrik, from India. I was in no rush to try this blade, but Leisureguy’s comparison of the Zorrik to the fabled Treet Blue Special was too much to resist. After all, the performance of the Treet “Batman” blade with the durability of a stainless? Hard to believe…I had to check this out for myself, A.S.A.P.!
I decided to go back to my Method routine….after all, I hadn’t yet had the chance to fully evaluate all the new Hydrolast products that had also just recently arrived.
It’s hard to accurately judge the Zorrik within the context of a Method shave because it is so hard to get a consistently good Method shave! The blade did have some of the “feel” of the Treet BS, but it wasn’t quite as smooth, IMHO. However, I can’t be sure because the Hydrolast lather is so variable from one shave to the next…a function, I believe, of the fact that you basically have to “mix your own” every time. By the time you’ve scrubbed the Cube, added water, added Activator, added Shaving Paste, added water, etc., etc., well there are so many variables in play that getting it consistently right is a challenge. Not that it was a bad shave…after finishing with the Cutting Balm…maybe a solid 9.0…not too shabby, but hey, I’m getting 9.5’s and above with “traditional” creams and soaps. The alum blog gave a moderate sting which is always a sure sign of some irritation. I finished with Hydrolast Tonic and Conditioner, plus a shot of Aqua Velva. Whew! That’s a lot of work!
